Queen Bee – Darkstalkers
She is the leader of the Soul Bee race. A race that eats souls to live.
How it was made: The costume is basically two parts, a leggings and a body. The leggings was made according to the pattern 2722 by KwikSew, I just made the leg longer so I could fit my shoe inside. The heels on the leggings were attached by hand-sewing, because I wanted the boot covers to be removeable as I wore my favourite pair of pumps inside. ^^ The bootcovers have a leathersole sewn underneath the shoe, so they are more durable.
The body is lined with black spandex, as I found out that the purple fabric alone was too thin while I made the leggings. The decorational crotch seams are only darts. Pattern for the body was KwikSew 3272. For the yellow and black decorations I made a pattern after having finished the basic shape of the purple body. I sewed the front decoration together before sewing it onto the body. The breasts were made from upholstery foam. I sewed the black stripes onto yellow spandex, the pattern was made accoring to the foamparts used to form the breasts. After the cover was done for them, I attached them to the body.
The collar is sewn onto the back of the costume and attaches in front with press-buttons. The bracelets are simply two tubes. Collar and bracelets were stuffed with cotton for a better fluff.
The "behind" is made from upholstery foam as well. As pattern I used 7 cat-eye-like parts that I sewed together. The covering was made from strips of spandex. The stinger is covered in spandex and filled with foam also. I have not yet made any attachment-device (like a girdle or something) for the behind, I ran out of time xD I attached it with a safety pin so far ^^; For the re-run I want to make a new one, with proper attachment, nicer covering and shape, and also stuff it with cotton, as it was very easily indented as is. :/
The wings were made with help from the tutorial over at http://www.firefly-path.net. Wire covered with organza, although I didn't want to attach the fabric with hot glue, but sewed around the frame. The decorations on the wings were painted on with Edding. They attach by simply putting them "into" the collar, no strings, no straps, keeps on pretty well as they are very lightweight. :)
The wig was made in two days from stuff laying around my flat as the base wigs I intended to use didn't arrive in time :< So I used a pink wig and two pakets of extensions, which I dyed with copic ink in "cyanine blue" and alcohol (1:20). The under-construction for the "horns" is made from rolled upholstery foam and wire, especially at the ends I just covered wire with hair. The antennas were made from jersey and wire, they were sewed into the wig underneath the "eyes". The "eyes" were made from fabric from our local carnival-store. One layer sequinned fabric, one layer glittering organza around a pad of upholstery foam. Im not content with the wig, it is rather obviously a workaround. :/ I'll make a new one when my cosplaywig order finally arrives…

Comment: Again two weeks before FBM I wanted to make something new to wear – just that this time it didn't work out, I didn't finish in time xD I had Q-Bee reference pictures sitting in my "Oh cool, I need to cosplay this!" folder for ages, her design is pretty awesome and hilarious, of course I wanted to cosplay her xD Even though I'm not (surprise!) a fan of foam-boobies in the least o_o Overall I'm happy with how this turned out,
although I want to make a few small changes here and there for the re-run. As always. The most annoying thing with this costume is that my wigs still haven't arrived – nearly a week after FBM! But the weekend over at Gamina's (our Hsien-Ko) with her and Britta, and Suaine (my favourite B.B.Hood! I love her facial expressions! <3) cosplaying with us again was sooo awesome that it made up for the wig-desaster :3 Many thanks to MissTakashi, who, basically 5 minutes before DCM started, was willing to go outside with us and take some awesome group pictures. <3 I was only for about 3h on the bookfair, because we got there late and I hate to get my train back, but these 3 hours were really really awesome! :3
