Klan (macronized) – Macross Frontier
Klan is a female Zentradi (Meltrandi) and captain of the S.M.S. Pixie squad. Because of a genetic anomaly she looks her age while macronized, but looks way younger as a miclone, what makes her an easy target for tease.
From when I started watching Macross Frontier she was immediately my favourite character with her intelligent and thoughtful nature. She is often more advisor than actor, and portrayed as a calm character, but she also has a more lively side to her and knows how to use her appearance as a Miclone to her advantage. And of course, how could one forget about [spoiler]her “secret” love for Michel, which she finally confesses to in episode 20 and which then ends in such a sad way D:[/spoiler] Even though she was my favourite character from the beginning, I have contemplated about making this for nearly 4 months before starting this. I was not sure I could pull her off well, so I kept thinking about if I fit her at all and how to realize it in a way that would make me content with the costume. Examns came, and I shortly forgot about it, but then my holidays began and I took on this project. I chose to make her macronized form, because I thought it more appropriate for my body type and face than her loli-like micloned self. But I like a lot of her outfits, so maybe I’ll give her micloned outfits a try too! :)
How it was made:
I first sewed a mock up/ test suit, to determine how and where the details would be attached, then I made my pattern from this. I copied the pattern to paper and cut out the fabric and sewed them onto the suit. Some progress pictures can be found here:1 2 The breasts were made from bra-cups and filled with cotton wool (the kind you use for stuffed animals). Shoulderpads, “bracelets” and the backpack were filled with upholstery foam, the pads on the underarms were additionally filled with cotton wool for the height differece. The collar is held up via boning, to achieve the tight but loose around the top look it has. The suit is an unitard, only the neck-collar-ackpack.thing is removable via velcro, and the gloves are seperate for comfort. :) The bootcovers were nailed onto the shoe in regular intervals to make sure they won’t slip. Basically, every detail is made from fabric, except for the smallest details on her shoes and backpack, and the F on her headband, those were made out of craftfoam.

Comment:
I think I’m quite happy with how this turned out :) As always, there are some error, but altogether I am happy how well the suit turned out. It was quite tricky sometimes to make sure the details were even. Unfortunately the reference pictures I found online were quite too small to see every detail, so I spent some time taking screenshots of everything *_* My favourite aspect is the wig, I just love poofy wigs<3 My least favourite aspect are the gloves. I am really happy how many positive comments I’ve received on this costume already, thank you all so much! :)
